New York Museum
of Transportation

General Info

Located at 6393 East River Road, in the Rochester suburb of Rush, the New York Museum of Transportation is open all year on Sundays only, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The museum's exhibit spaces feature a collection of antique trolley cars, a steam locomotive, fire truck, ambulance, operating model railroad, many other vehicles, and numerous exhibits of photographs and artifacts pertaining to local transportation history. Take the Virtual Tour to learn more.

Mid-May through October, trolley rides operate every half-hour beginning at 11:30 a.m. A one-hour excursion on a full-size rail line, includes a guided tour at the neighboring Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum, featuring a restored country train depot and a wide assortment of railroad equipment on display. The museum's 80-year-old electric trolley cars take you to Midway Station where you'll board an authentic railroad track car---like the "gandy dancers" used---for continuation to the depot. On your return to Midway Station, you'll find the electric trolley car waiting for you. The conductor has reversed the trolley poles and you're ready to finish your return trip through the beautiful Genesee Valley countryside.

On special event days, diesel trains take the place of the track cars. In addition to special event days, the diesel trains will also run in 2010 on May 16; September 19 and 26;  and October 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31. In December, be sure to visit for our annual Holley Trolley rides to celebrate the holidays.
